Gemini learns to sing: Google plans an audio generator for all Android users.
Google is further expanding Gemini and, after text and images, is now apparently turning its attention to music production. Clear indications of an upcoming audio generator have been found in the current code snippets of the Google app for Android.
The functionality will likely seem familiar: you enter a text command, the AI analyzes your request, and then creates a suitable music track. According to the code snippets, the results will appear directly in a new music category within the "My Content" section.
This move likely ends a previous hardware exclusivity. Until now, almost only Pixel smartphone owners could use the Recorder app to compose AI music for their voice memos. Direct integration into the broader Gemini app now opens this door to the entire Android ecosystem.
Google's move is logical, as the AI already adds sound to generated videos on request. However, clues in the source code suggest possible limitations that may apply depending on the subscription model or usage frequency.
The development can certainly be viewed critically in professional use. AI doesn't truly create anything new, but merely rearranges its existing training material. Copyright remains a minefield with such generative audio content. Anyone who wants to use the upcoming features for anything beyond private experimentation should proceed with caution. The code doesn't yet reveal exactly when Google will roll it out, but we expect a rollout in the coming months.
