YouTube cleans up its search with new filters.

YouTube is changing its search function and will now present a significantly revised filter system.

YouTube cleans up its search with new filters.

This is intended to make search queries more precise and narrow down results more quickly. According to the platform, numerous community feedback points were incorporated. In addition to content adjustments, several filters were renamed or completely replaced.

A key update targets fans of short formats. So-called "shorts" can now be specifically isolated. The search filter features a switch that displays only short videos.

This change allows users to clearly distinguish between classic videos and short clips, making the results list easier to understand.

At the same time, YouTube is parting ways with several previous options.

Some filters were removed because, according to YouTube, they either didn't work reliably or repeatedly caused frustration. These included very narrow time windows, such as displaying videos from the last hour, and sorting by ratings.

The filter for uploads from today will remain in place. The rating sorting will be replaced by a new category called "Popularity".

The sorting logic itself is being redesigned.

The previous "Sort By" menu is now called "Prioritize" to better show that results are weighted by criteria. You can still sort by relevance or by popularity.

The latter replaces the previous sorting based solely on view count. YouTube is thus making it clear that not only clicks count, but also factors such as actual watch time and user behavior are taken into account in a video's evaluation.
