Apple MacBook Pro gets a new design and more.
The long-awaited MacBook Pro with M6 is expected to bring exciting new features in 2027.
While new MacBook Pro models with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are coming soon, the actual redesign won't arrive until the fourth quarter of 2026. Depending on how urgently you need a new MacBook, you might be able to wait for the model after next.
MacBook Pro M6: OLED touch display with Dynamic Island
The biggest innovation in the 2026 MacBook Pro is likely to be a new design – and the display is also expected to be significantly sharper. Not only will it be the first Mac with an OLED screen, resulting in more vibrant colors and deeper blacks, but the MacBook Pro is also rumored to feature Dynamic Island.
This should give it similar software features to the iPhone and allow it to display messages in the Dynamic Island in a playful way.
Most users are likely waiting for one thing above all: the touchscreen. Steve Jobs never wanted a Mac with a touchscreen because using a vertical display quickly tires the arms. Whether the screen can therefore be folded completely flat and how macOS will need to be redesigned is still unclear.
New design, M6 chips, and SIM card support
As if the display improvements weren't enough, the MacBook Pro, arriving at the end of the year, is also expected to feature a new, slimmer design. According to a MacRumors compilation, popular ports like HDMI and SD card slots will remain. The M6 processors, presumably manufactured using a 2nm process, are expected to deliver entirely new performance standards, especially for AI workflows.
We're being cautious, but it's possible that the MacBook Pro, due out at the end of the year, will also support SIM cards (likely only eSIM) for mobile internet. Apple could use its own C1/C2 modem for 5G support.
You shouldn't have unrealistic expectations; we're still somewhat skeptical whether Apple will really pack all these groundbreaking features into a single device.
