Apple presents iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max with the A19 chip. - TECHNO REVIEW

Apple presents iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max with the A19 chip.

The new features include a better telephoto camera and the move away from titanium in the Pro models. The basic iPhone gets a 120-hertz display.

In addition to the all-new iPhone Air, Apple also introduced three fresh versions of its existing model series. There's no Plus model this time. All three are equipped with the A19 or A19 Pro processor, replacing the A18 and A18 Pro, and, like them, offer two performance cores and four efficiency cores. New features include "neural accelerators" in each graphics core. The clock speed is expected to be slightly higher than 4 GHz, but Apple remains silent about this figure.

The 2025 iPhones will introduce the N1, a new Apple chip that supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and Thread. All three models now feature an 18-megapixel front camera, up from 12, and the minimum storage configuration has increased to 256 GB, previously only available on the Pro Max. Contrary to speculation, the European market will still have a SIM slot—in addition to the dual eSIM.

48 MP telephoto sensor for the Pro models

The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max now feature a redesigned back, with a camera belt that spans the entire width and shifts the MagSafe wireless charging area slightly downwards from the center. The LED light and LiDAR scanner are no longer located directly next to the three lenses, but at the same height on the opposite edge.

The telephoto lens on both Pro models has a 4x zoom factor (down from the previous 5x), but features a 48-megapixel sensor instead of the 12-megapixel sensor used in previous models. Using only the inner 12 megapixels for a photo, you achieve twice the zoom factor, similar to the main camera, but with reduced light output. For the first time, iPhones with Apple's own camera app can record simultaneously with both the front and main cameras. This captures both the end of the film and what the camera sees.

iPhone 17 with an improved display

The basic iPhone (without the Pro) features a display that has been enlarged from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, offering 3,000 nits of brightness for the first time and a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, which Apple calls ProMotion. This enables smooth scrolling and the energy-saving always-on display.

The iPhone 17 is available in green, blue, and purple (referred to by Apple as Lavender, Mist, and Sage), as well as black and white. It costs €949 with 256 GB of storage.

Unlike the Pro models, the iPhone 17 still lacks a telephoto camera and a LiDAR scanner. The GPU of the A19 (without the Pro) has 5 cores instead of 6. The maximum available storage size is 512 GB. As with the Pros, it retains Wi-Fi 7 with 2600 Mbps, USB-C, Dynamic Island, the camera control button, and Face ID.
