Retro meets modern: The Atari Intellivision Sprint console.
After 45 years, the legendary Intellivision console returns—this time under the Atari umbrella. The Intellivision Sprint game console will be available for pre-order starting October 17, 2025, and is scheduled to launch in time for the holiday season on December 5 in the US and Australia, and on December 23, 2025, in Europe.
Modern technology meets retro charm.
The new console retains the classic design of the original Intellivision but has been optimized for modern televisions. The heart of the Intellivision Sprint is the HDMI port, which allows for direct connection to modern displays. The two included controllers are now wireless and charge via USB-C in a docking station.
Particularly noteworthy: Atari has recreated all 48 keyboard overlays of the original controllers, which displayed specific key functions for each game. A USB-A port also allows the use of original Intellivision controllers with appropriate adapters and the purchase of additional games.
45 games for the 45th anniversary
The console comes with 45 pre-installed classic games, including popular titles like Boulder Dash, Astrosmash, Shark!! Shark!, and Sea Battle. The sports games for which Intellivision once made its name are particularly well-received—from baseball to tennis to Super Pro Football.
Historical context
The original Intellivision, released by Mattel in 1979, was the first serious competitor to the Atari 2600. This rivalry sparked the first console war in video game history. After Atari acquired the Intellivision brand from Mattel in 2024, the battle has come full circle. The Intellivision Sprint game console costs €139.99.
