Xiaomi 17 Pro Official, Similar to iPhone 17 Pro with Mini Screen on the Back

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi launched two new flagship phones , the Xiaomi 17 series, in the Chinese market on Thursday (September 25, 2025). Three models were released: the "regular" Xiaomi 17, the Xiaomi 17 Pro, and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.  

Xiaomi's decision to skip the 16 series and go straight to the 17 series was no accident. Xiaomi's Mobile Phone Division President, Lu Weibing, openly called this strategy a way to "match pace" with Apple. 

Not only the name, the Xiaomi 17 Pro series also features a rear camera design similar to the iPhone 17 Pro series. Now, the rear camera module (camera plateau) takes up almost a third of the top of the back.

The difference is that Xiaomi has added a unique touch in the form of a mini secondary display on the rear camera module. This was confirmed in a short teaser video posted by Xiaomi on Weibo.

Of the three, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max stand out from the regular versions. Both phones appear more sophisticated thanks to their horizontal secondary displays, which are placed on the back.

This secondary screen appears to be a "module" or rear camera housing with a fairly large size, almost a third of the phone's body.  

It appears to be about the same size as the camera module on the iPhone 17 series, which was released some time ago. However, it's more advanced because it also functions as a second display.  

The secondary screen can be used for various purposes. Users can reportedly take selfies using the camera, check notifications, receive incoming calls or messages, control the music player, and even display a countdown timer.

Interestingly, Xiaomi added another function in the form of a customization option using a special retro casing that allows the rear screen to be used as a mini game console.

The secondary displays on the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are also designed with impressive specifications. They support a 120Hz refresh rate , peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits, and feature DC Dimming technology. 

Specifically, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max features a secondary screen with a larger size of 2.9 inches, whereas the Xiaomi 17 Pro has a screen size of 2.7 inches. 

The resolution is also slightly different, where the rear screen of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has a resolution of 976 x 596 pixels, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro has a resolution of 904 x 572 pixels.

Beyond the secondary display, the impressive specifications of both phones extend to various aspects of the device, including performance, main display, telephoto camera, battery, and more.
