Pre-installed spyware: How Galaxy users can remove the persistent app

On specific Samsung devices, a deeply integrated app is reportedly collecting more data than initially thought. Experts note that the software is complicated to remove completely.

Pre-installed spyware: How Galaxy users can remove the persistent app

Samsung is facing criticism for its budget smartphones in the Galaxy A and Galaxy M series: As reported by “CyberSecurityNews,” devices in some countries were allegedly shipped with the pre-installed AppCloud software, which is difficult to remove. The app was developed by the Israeli analytics company “IronSource.”

The app is designed to collect location and usage data.

According to CyberSecurityNews, AppCloud collects location data, app usage patterns, and device information, among other things, without requiring recurring consent after initial setup. Attempts to uninstall the software often fail because it is deeply integrated into Samsung’s One UI operating system. Security researchers also report that the app is automatically reactivated after updates or factory resets.

The problem came to light through investigations by the Lebanese digital rights group SMEX. In a report, SMEX notes that the persistent integration of AppCloud could enable unauthorized third-party data collection. A SMEX spokesperson stated: “This is not just bloatware, but a surveillance tool embedded directly into the hardware.”

Online debate fuels accusations – Samsung remains silent

A post from the International Cyber Digest account on social media reignited the discussion. According to Android Authority, the post received millions of views and claimed that AppCloud was “non-removable Israeli spyware”.

Furthermore, the portal refers to an open letter from SMEX that identifies significant data privacy risks. According to CyberSecurityNews, however, regulatory authorities denied reports of any bans, citing misinformation. Samsung has not yet directly responded to the allegations, but it has emphasized its commitment to data privacy standards.

This is how Samsung’s Galaxy series has evolved since 2009.

Samsung’s Galaxy series is among the most successful smartphone lines worldwide and has shaped the Android market since its launch. From the first devices to the latest-generation AI-powered models, the series demonstrates how dramatically mobile technology has changed over the last decade and a half.
