AirPods Max 2: These are the features the new generation could offer

The AirPods Max are celebrating their fifth anniversary – but a fundamental upgrade is still nowhere in sight.

AirPods Max 2: These are the features the new generation could offer

Since their market launch in December 2020, Apple has made some minor updates to the headphones, but some features are still missing. While the AirPods Max received a USB-C port and new colors last year, followed by support for lossless audio and lower latency, they are still technically based on the H1 chip from 2019, while newer AirPods models have advanced significantly.

New model likely to be significantly lighter

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning a new generation of AirPods Max for 2027. The most important point: the weight is expected to decrease. Currently, the headphones weigh around 385 grams, which some users find too heavy.

Switching to the H2 chip or another successor would also enable numerous improvements. These include better sound quality, optimized noise cancellation, longer battery life, and features such as adaptive audio, volume personalization, call detection, and Siri activation without a voice command.

Other expected innovations

In addition, new colors for the ear pads and headband, a redesigned case, and an ultra-wideband chip for precise location tracking are likely to be included. Those who do not urgently need new headphones are advised to wait for the 2027 model.
