Google releases update 2.0 for Pixel devices: Critical bugs are fixed – but there are limitations.

Google has surprisingly rolled out a mini-update for Pixel devices. The hotfix addresses battery, touch, and storage issues on Pixel 8 through 10. However, it will not be rolled out to all devices simultaneously.

Google releases update 2.0 for Pixel devices: Critical bugs are fixed – but there are limitations.

Just before the holidays, Google released a second December update for Pixel devices. Only two weeks after the regular QPR2 patch, a small hotfix of around 25 MB addressed several serious issues.

Build BP4A.251205.006.E1 is exclusively for Pixel generations 8 through 10 and was distributed without official announcement. Initial indications came from Verizon and user reports on Reddit. Older models like the Pixel 6 and 7 are not included.

Google releases an update for Pixel – bugs are fixed.

The update fixes three key bugs. Many owners complained about unusually high power consumption in standby mode, which is now reduced through optimized background processes. Exclusively on the Pixel 10, touch recognition issues were addressed and corrected via a display driver update.

Furthermore, users who upgraded directly from Android 14 to version 16 could no longer access locally stored content such as maps or music. This was caused by a memory management bug, which was fixed with the hotfix. Availability has been confirmed in the USA and parts of the UK.

The update will be distributed exclusively via OTA; factory images or manual downloads are not available. Users who receive the update will find it as usual under Settings → System → System update. A restart is required after installation. Users of the Android 16 QPR3 beta must manually flash the patch, which carries a risk of data loss.

Pixel Update 2.0: Google has not yet shared any information.

Reactions are mixed. Many are relieved that the battery and touchscreen are working normally again and that offline maps are usable. At the same time, users criticize the late release, the lack of transparency, and the regional restrictions. Google itself has not yet issued a statement. The fixes will likely be available globally with the QPR3 update no later than March 2026.

The second December update is an important step toward ensuring the stability of current Pixel models. However, the question remains: why is Google so reserved in its communication and not addressing older devices? Affected users should install the update as soon as it becomes available.
