New Mac mini: What you can expect

With a significantly minor redesign in November 2024, Apple breathed new life into the Mac mini.

New Mac mini: What you can expect

Thanks to the M4 and M4 Pro chips, the small desktop computer became significantly more potent at the time. Since the M5 chip was introduced in the MacBook Pro, the question now is when the Mac mini will also benefit from it. Recent reports suggest that Apple is planning the following model for 2026.

M5 and M5 Pro are the next level.

The Mac mini has always had a somewhat irregular update cycle. Sometimes it went untouched for years, other times Apple skipped entire chip generations. This time, however, the M5 will not be skipped. Leaks and reports suggest that Apple is preparing both a version with the M5 and one with the M5 Pro.

Apple is expected to fine-tune the technical specifications. At least 16 GB of RAM is anticipated for the M5 model, and 24 GB for the M5 Pro. Thunderbolt 4 is expected to be standard on the M5, while the Mac mini Pro could even offer Thunderbolt 5. Wireless connectivity will likely remain at Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. No significant internal changes are currently known.

The design remains as it is.

The compact 2024 design is likely to remain with us for several more years. New colors or port changes are not currently on the horizon. In short, the next Mac mini will probably not be a design reboot, but rather a solid performance upgrade. A market launch in spring 2026, or at the latest at WWDC in June, is considered realistic.
