The iPhone Game Boy: New controller for portrait-oriented games

Here's a controller that might feel like a Game Boy Color.

The iPhone Game Boy: New controller for portrait-oriented games

Retro gaming specialist 8BitDo presents the FlipPad at CES 2026 – a controller specifically for portrait-oriented games on the iPhone.

The special feature: It folds down like a classic flip phone to the lower half of the screen and connects via USB-C.

Classic controls in a retro look

The controls are reminiscent of legendary handheld consoles: A black D-pad, red ABXY buttons, and Start and Select buttons provide a familiar feel.

Six additional white keys can be individually assigned.

Official Apple support

According to 8BitDo, the FlipPad is officially supported by Apple and works with both iOS and Android.

The market launch is planned for the summer; price information is still pending.

More details expected at CES

Since 8BitDo has already announced a new "Pro" controller for CES, more information about the FlipPad is likely to follow in the coming days around the trade fair in Las Vegas.
