Now also with remote control: New smartphone gimbal from DJI
The remote control offers even more freedom when filming with the DJI Osmo Mobile 8P. Tracking has also been improved and now keeps objects like cars or landmarks centered in the frame.
Highlights: Remote control and refined tracking
The focus is on the new “Osmo FrameTap”: This detachable remote control allows, for the first time, selfies to be taken with the main camera from a distance – including a live preview on an integrated display. Gimbal movements and zoom can be precisely controlled via a joystick. With this, DJI catches up with its competitor Hohem, which already offers such a remote control in its gimbals, such as the Hohem iSteady M7.
DJI has also improved its tracking capabilities. The enhanced ActiveTrack 8.0 not only recognizes people and animals, but also objects such as vehicles or landmarks, reliably keeping them in focus – even in busy scenes. iPhone users can alternatively use native tracking via Apple DockKit to connect the gimbal to the iPhone’s camera.
Interaction with the DJI Mimo app
Technically, DJI relies on an advanced, eighth-generation 3-axis stabilization system designed to ensure smooth footage even when the subject is moving. Thanks to the 360-degree Infinite Spin function, the gimbal can track objects completely freely without reaching a mechanical limit after a single rotation.
The gimbal weighs approximately 386 grams and features an integrated tripod with an extendable 21.5-centimeter extension rod. A convenient feature: the smartphone can be charged via USB-C using the integrated battery, which DJI states provides a battery life of up to ten hours.
The DJI Mimo app provides creative freedom. Features such as DynamicZoom, Slow Shutter, and Action Shot are designed to enable cinematic effects directly while filming.
