Several companies involved stated that they obtain consent through factory management rather than directly from employees. Researchers and labor representatives doubt that this can be considered informed consent, especially where employment relationships are precarious or involve subcontractors. Furthermore, the recordings were apparently not used solely for robot training. Documents seen by Scroll indicate that some companies use the same recordings to generate productivity reports and analyze idle time and employee interactions.
