Grok primarily produces erotic content.

xAI 's AI model Grok has already been criticized for its erotic content. However, this content is still intended to be central to the business.

Grok primarily produces erotic content.

Fewer restrictions than other models are one of xAI's key selling points for Grok. Invoking US freedom of speech, this applies not only to controversial topics like the Holocaust, but also to erotic content. This has already caused a scandal for xAI, as Grok has been widely used to create sexualized deepfakes, including images of children.

However, the controversy has changed little, as two former xAI employees told The Information magazine. According to informants, erotic content accounts for more than half of Grok's traffic.

A fine line between legal and illegal content

This is expected to generate substantial revenue for xAI and provide a unique selling point compared to other providers, to whom xAI has lost some traffic in recent months, at least according to publicly available figures. There have already been reports that Grok was deliberately designed to be more permissive to attract users.

A particular problem for AI providers is preventing the creation of illegal content. This is one of the reasons OpenAI discontinued work on its erotic chatbot. Other providers prohibit such content altogether. At xAI, this also led to internal discussions and dissatisfaction. For example, employees were unhappy about having to work on the NSFW companion app Ani.

xAI has apparently also strengthened its filters; its terms of service have long prohibited pornographic content featuring real people. The 18+ mode, which previously allowed erotic content, has also been removed. However, the filters are said to be relatively easy to circumvent.
