New feature for Samsung phones: This happens when you long-press the power button
Samsung is expanding the functionality of its Galaxy phones and tablets with a new way to summarise web pages. The innovative feature, initially available in the Samsung Internet Browser via Galaxy AI, has been enhanced with the integration of Google Gemini. This offers users an alternative method for web summarisation on Galaxy devices.
Gemini website summaries in Google Chrome
Last month, Google introduced a feature that allows you to summarise web pages in Chrome using Google Gemini. This feature is currently available to all users. A simple long press on the power button or a dedicated Gemini key opens the "Summarise Page" option above the Gemini search bar.
Simply tapping the "Summarise" function triggers a colourful animation before a floating window appears with a condensed overview of the current page.
According to Android Central, the feature allows users to expand the summary, ask follow-up questions, or dive into specific details of the page. This shortcut works in various environments, including normal browsing, custom tabs, Discover feeds, Google News, and search results.
Benefits of the new feature on Galaxy devices
The integration of Gemini is intended to simplify the summarisation process, as users no longer have to browse the entire website. The summarisation is saved directly in the Gemini chats, allowing for later continuation or discussion. This feature is now available on iOS and iPadOS devices.
Previously, using Gemini for summarisation required manually copying the URL into the Gemini app, which was time-consuming. The new feature eliminates this additional effort, as both can now be done seamlessly in one app.
Potential expansion of Samsung and Google
A similar feature for Samsung's internet browser earlier this year, with Google Gemini handling web content aggregation. Although Samsung hasn't officially announced this feature yet, it could potentially arrive with the launch of the Galaxy S26 series next year.
Google's Gemini offers these features.
Gemini is designed to help users quickly get answers to questions. For example, it can easily summarise content such as mathematical concepts if academic support is needed.
Gemini is also designed to help users better understand on-screen content. For example, users can learn more about landmarks by asking, "Hey Google, where is this place?"
The system also supports selecting skin care products by making product recommendations based on specific needs.
From finding a suitable sushi restaurant to creating a to-do list for a weekend getaway, Gemini can help users. Users can enter information such as their family's interests to receive more relevant suggestions and access saved flight and hotel information from Gmail.
Finally, drawing on information from Google, Gemini aggregates emails, which, among other things, is intended to manage important school messages efficiently.
