Huawei Watch Ultimate 2: HarmonyOS 6 brings heart rate monitoring and professional cycling features

Huawei is rolling out the HarmonyOS 6.0.0.209 update for its premium Watch Ultimate 2. The new firmware significantly enhances the health features and introduces a screening tool for coronary heart disease. After a three-day measurement period, the watch estimates your risk of blood clots. 

All you have to do is register for the research project via the Huawei Research App. Huawei is thus solidifying its reputation as a pioneer in medical wearable features, even though FDA certification is still pending.

Athletes also benefit significantly from the new software. The outdoor cycling mode now simulates cadence directly on the wrist, eliminating the need for an external crank-mounted sensor. A new 3D distance compensation function also ensures more precise readings during climbs. The watch uses the barometer and GPS to calculate the actual distance traveled on inclines. This prevents your distance from being artificially shortened on the map during steep ascents.

Huawei is prioritizing inclusion with its new wheelchair mode. The three familiar activity rings now adapt to wheelchair users' movements. Skiers also receive more detailed data on maximum speed and slope angle. A welcome everyday convenience is the enhanced camera remote control. This now works not only with Huawei phones but also supports select Android smartphones from other manufacturers.

The update is already rolling out in China and will soon arrive on European devices. With its zirconium liquid metal case and sapphire crystal, the Ultimate 2 remains at the forefront of tactile quality even in 2026. The combination of extreme outdoor features and new medical analytics makes it the strongest competitor to the Apple Watch Ultra currently available.
