5 New Rules for Carrying Power Banks on Emirates Flights

United Arab Emirates airline Emirates has officially implemented new regulations regarding restrictions on the use of power banks in aircraft cabins, starting October 1, 2025.

This rule was implemented as a precautionary measure following an increase in incidents of fires involving lithium batteries in portable devices on aircraft cabins.

In a new policy posted on its official blog, Emirates confirmed that passengers are no longer allowed to use power banks to charge their devices during flights.

Passengers are also prohibited from recharging power banks via USB sockets or power plugs provided on airplane seats.

However, passengers are still allowed to bring power banks into the cabin, provided that their capacity does not exceed 100 watt-hours (Wh) and has a clear capacity label.

According to the old rules, power banks are still prohibited from being placed in checked baggage. There are additional regulations that passengers must comply with. Power banks may only be stored in seat pockets or bags under the passenger seat and must not be placed in the overhead bin.

Emirates stated that the rule aims to make it easier for cabin crew to monitor devices in the event of a problem. This decision was made after several fire incidents involving lithium batteries, including the recent fire on a portable charger during an Air Busan flight.
