Apple has finally gotten off the ground: Apple is building the first 100 iPhone Folds.
The iPhone Fold has left the development phase and is entering pre-production.
For a long time, the typical screen crease on foldable smartphones was both an aesthetic and a technical problem. The crease was clearly visible when the phone was lying flat.
With the iPhone Fold, this is supposed to be a thing of the past: Thanks to a new display and Apple-developed lamination technology, the annoying “crease” is eliminated.
Apple’s contribution to the solution
Although Samsung supplies the internal display, the crucial innovations in panel structure, material processing, and pressing process come from Apple itself.
The manufacturer also co-developed the joint and hinge design. This could allow the iPhone Fold to launch this fall as the first folding smartphone without a visible crease.
The first test series is underway.
Reports indicate that approximately 100 devices have already been manufactured — a typical step into the so-called “Engineering Validation Phase” (EVT).
This means that the project is no longer just a prototype, but is being tested realistically and prepared for series production.
Price and market positioning indicate a premium status.
Some experts believe that the name “iPhone Ultra” will be used.
At the same time, a rumored $2,400 price tag would make the foldable the most expensive iPhone of all time.
