New Motorola phone surprises with its price and massive battery
For frequent phone users: The Motorola Moto G57 has a powerful battery that is supposed to last an exceptionally long time. The price is also exceptional. However, there is a catch.
Gone are the days when phones didn't need to be plugged in for days at a time. Since the rise of smartphones and their increased power consumption, users have to charge their devices on average every day. There are exceptions, though. The Motorola Moto G57 is one such example.
The smartphone has a 7,000 mAh battery, which, according to the manufacturer, lasts up to 60 hours. For comparison, current iPhone models – including the Pro Max – don't even reach 5,000 mAh. The iPhone Pro Max, for example, is said by Apple to last up to 37 hours before needing to be recharged.
The Motorola Moto G57 Power's battery has another advantage over competing devices. The manufacturer uses silicon-carbon technology, which has a high energy density. This should ensure that the Moto G57 Power's battery retains at least 80% of its capacity after 1000 charging cycles.
At least the older lithium-ion batteries from Apple and other companies can reach 80 percent capacity after around 500 charging cycles. Manufacturers often recommend replacing the battery after 1,000 charging cycles.
Bright Full HD display with 120 Hz
For the display, Motorola opted for an LCD screen with Full HD resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen measures 6.72 inches. With a brightness of 1050 nits, the display should be easily readable even outdoors in direct sunlight.
In addition to the USB-C charging port, Motorola has also included a classic headphone jack. The primary camera has a 50-megapixel sensor and is paired with an ultra-wide-angle camera.
Motorola offers the smartphone in only one version. It comes with 256 GB of built-in storage. The brand-new 4th-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s processor is supported by 8 GB of RAM, which can be virtually expanded to 24 GB.
The dimensions of the Moto G57 Power are 166.23 x 76.50 x 8.60 mm. According to the manufacturer, the device weighs 210.6 grams.
What's the catch?
The Moto G57 comes with Android 16, but according to the German tech portal Heise, it will not receive any further Android updates. Motorola only guarantees three years of security updates for the phone, which costs just under 250 Swiss francs. This violates new EU directives that require at least five years of updates for new smartphones, Heise writes.
By comparison, Fairphone guarantees at least eight years of software updates, Google seven years, and Samsung six to seven years, depending on the price range.
The Moto G57 Power is available in three colors: Pantone Corsair (blue), Pantone Pink Lemonade (pink), and Pantone Fluidity (green). Motorola sells the phone in Switzerland for 249 Swiss francs.
