iOS 26.2, iPadOS 26.2, macOS 26.2: Release Candidate published by Apple
Apple has just released the iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2 beta candidates for developers.
This means that all users should receive the versions next week.
The iOS and iPadOS update introduces, among other things, a so-called "Liquid Glass" slider on the lock screen that lets you adjust the clock's transparency.
It also includes a live translation function with AirPods in the EU, as well as reminder alerts for due task entries.
That was new in the latest iOS 26.2 beta.
It introduced a handy AirDrop feature: users can generate one-time codes to share files with people who are not in their contacts list for 30 days.
Temporary AirDrop contacts can be managed in the settings under "General" => "AirDrop" – perfect for occasional data exchange without revealing the phone number.
Apple is also preparing a significant change: iPhone users will soon be able to activate alternative voice assistants like Gemini or Alexa by long-pressing the side button, instead of just Siri. According to the developer documentation, this feature will initially only be available for Japanese Apple accounts.
A new API allows third-party apps to read high-blood-pressure alerts from the Apple Watch. This enables medical apps to access health data.
The Games app receives filter functions for the game library, improved controller navigation, and live updates for challenge scores. In the Reminders app, Apple is for the first time actively highlighting the new alarm feature for urgent tasks.
The Liquid Glass mode in Tinted Design now automatically turns off conflicting accessibility settings. Drag-and-drop functionality for apps from the App Library and Dock returns on the iPad. Additionally, Apple informs users of updated privacy policies when they first access their Apple account.
The release candidates published today are available to registered developers via the settings on iPhone or iPad.
According to Apple, the public release for all users is planned for December.
